Fellow Columbia Alumni and Friends,
Join us on March 8th, at noon, for another informative luncheon at Rosemary & Thyme Restaurant. Cost remains at $25 for members and $30 for guests. Our speaker will be one of our own local alumni, Marcy Miller, Executive Director of the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota. Marcy will focus on this unique arts organization, which was established in 1996 by Jerry and Lee Dougherty Ross, as well as on the state of the arts community in Sarasota, as we begin to emerge from the current pandemic.
The mission of the Artists Series is to spark a lifelong love of the musical arts by exposing young people to interactive musical experiences. It accomplishes this through regular performances by emerging and established artists at venues throughout Sarasota and Venice, performance-based outreach programs in area schools, and through the Suncoast Music Scholarship program, offering cash awards to aspiring young musicians.
Marcy Miller was appointed Executive Director of the Artist Series in 2019, after serving as Executive Director of the William King Museum of Art in Abington, VA. Her prior experience includes serving as a development director for both the University of Maryland and University of Michigan Medical colleges, and as a public school teacher in Connecticut and Colorado. She holds degrees from Columbia, Sacred Heart and Yale Universities. Marcy and her husband Brian (also a Columbia Alum) moved to Sarasota five years ago, after living in various cities across the U.S. Three of our present Columbia Club board members also serve on the Board of Trustees of the Artist Series.
